Charoset (Apples & Walnuts)

Not everything needs to be made in the Instant Pot and Charoset is proof of that.
What is Charoset, anyway? Well, other than pronouncing a word that makes it sound like you have a tickle in your throat, it’s really nothing more than a wonderful, sweet blend of apples and walnuts mixed together with some honey, sweet spices and, of course, some WINE!
This is a signature side served at a Passover Seder table is the Charoset signifies the mortar the Jews used to build the pyramids for Pharaoh and to remind us of those rougher times…but in a delicious way, I guess. But it can be enjoyed ANY time of year! Regardless, it’s silly how easy it is to make PLUS I show you the proper way to dice an apple in the video for precision every time!
Here’s How I Made It!: 
Begin with some apples of different varieties…
…and dice em up (watch the video to see how to properly do this – and I strongly suggest using this incredible pairing knife to cut the core out of the apple and this wonderful cook’s knife to slice and dice the apple)
Then take some walnuts (or any nut of your choice really, but walnuts are the most traditional)…
…place them in a bag and crush them up using something like a rolling pin or meat mallet (but don’t OVERdo it – just pound it enough so it forms into small chunks).
See that? Nice and crushed just like this.
Place the apples and walnuts to a mixing bowl.
And now make it all sweet and delightful with some honey…
…light brown sugar…
…cinnamon…
…allspice…
…nutmeg…
…and, of course, MANISCHEWITZ wine! (But you can totally use concord grade juice if you can’t do wine).
Add some of that in there…
…and give everything a real good stir so it all gets combined together.
Yum!
Place a lid on the bowl (or cover with foil) and pop in the fridge to chill for at least an hour as Charoset is a dish best served cold.
When chilled, take a forkful…
…and feed it to a loved one at your Passover Seder table OR just make it as a wonderful, sweet snack!  It goes GREAT mixed in with my Yogurt AND Steel Cut Oats!

  • 1 granny smith apple, peeled & diced
  • 1 gala apple, peeled & diced
  • 1 Fuji apple, peeled & diced
  • 1 cup of walnuts, crushed (you can use more if you want more or use any nut you prefer, but walnuts are the classic nut of choice for a Charoset. In fact, feel free to trey it with CANDIED walnuts, pecans or cashews!)
  • 1.5 tbsp of honey
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp of nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp of allspice
  • 1 tbsp of light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of Manischewitz Concord Grape wine (or any flavor of Manischewitz really – this can be found at most wine/liquor stores. If you don’t drink wine, concord grape juice is a fine substitute)

This goes GREAT mixed in with my Yogurt AND Steel Cut Oats!

I strongly suggest using this incredible pairing knife to cut the core out of the apple and this wonderful cook’s knife to slice and dice the apple.

If you want more walnuts, add more walnuts! If you want to use pecans or cashews instead, use those! Even use candied nuts if you want. And if you hate nuts, leave them out! It will taste just as good!

Feel free to also add less Manischewitz wine to your liking. And, by the way, Manischewitz wine can be found at most wine/liquor stores.

If you don’t drink wine, concord grape juice is a fine substitute.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients together very well
  2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour as Charoset is best served chilled
  3. Enjoy! This also goes GREAT mixed in with my Yogurt AND Steel Cut Oats!
